Laminar air flow testing for sterile dispensing and clean handling zones
Vanavil Calibrations tests laminar air flow (LAF) cabinets and workstations — the unidirectional-airflow benches used for pharmaceutical dispensing, sterile compounding and clean handling — verifying that the unit is producing the stable, unidirectional flow it depends on, with documented results for every test.
Verifying a localized unidirectional-flow zone, not a whole room
A laminar air flow (LAF) unit is a bench or workstation, horizontal or vertical, that pushes filtered air across its work zone in a single, unidirectional pattern. It is a localized clean-air zone rather than a whole controlled room — the distinction that separates LAF testing from clean room testing, even though both are concerned with contamination control. LAF units are commonly used for pharmaceutical dispensing, sterile compounding and other clean handling work.
LAF testing focuses on whether that unidirectional flow is actually being achieved: consistent airflow velocity, uniform distribution across the work area, and a HEPA filter that is holding its integrity. This is also functionally distinct from a biosafety cabinet — an LAF unit is built to protect the product or process from contamination, while a biosafety cabinet is also designed to protect the operator, typically through a contained airflow design.
An LAF unit only protects what it's meant to if the airflow holds
Sterile Handling Integrity
Sterile dispensing and compounding work depends on a consistent unidirectional airflow across the work zone, not just a filtered supply.
Product & Process Protection
An LAF unit's job is to keep the product and process free of contamination — that only holds if the airflow pattern is actually unidirectional.
Early Warning
Regular testing catches HEPA filter degradation or airflow drift before it turns into a compromised batch or an audit finding.
