Biosafety cabinet testing you can hand to an auditor
Vanavil Calibrations tests biosafety cabinets (BSCs) — the containment devices that protect your operator, your product or sample, and your environment — against the performance parameters that confirm they're doing that job, with documented results for every test.
Confirming three-way protection, not just airflow
A biosafety cabinet is a containment device, not a clean bench — its job is three-way protection: keeping the operator safe from what's inside, keeping the product or sample safe from outside contamination, and keeping the surrounding environment safe from what the cabinet is containing. Biosafety cabinets are commonly grouped into Class I, Class II and Class III categories, each built around that same principle in a different way.
Testing is how you confirm that protection is still real. Filters load, seals age, fan performance drifts — none of it visible from the front of the cabinet. Biosafety cabinet testing is the structured measurement process that catches this before it becomes a safety incident or a compliance finding.
One cabinet, three things it has to protect
Operator Safety
Correct inflow and containment keep laboratory personnel protected from the biological hazards being handled inside the cabinet.
Product & Sample Protection
Filtered downflow air protects the sample or product inside the cabinet from outside contamination, preserving culture and sample integrity.
Environmental Protection
Filtered exhaust prevents biological hazards from escaping the cabinet into the surrounding laboratory or environment.
Performance parameters covered
- Airflow velocity — inflow and downflow
- HEPA filter integrity
- UV intensity, where fitted
- Containment and leak check
- Alarm and interlock function

Site Assessment
We review the cabinet, its class and which parameters need testing.
On-Site Testing
Testing is carried out against ISO IEC 17025:2017 procedures using calibrated instruments.
Documented Report
You receive a report with results per parameter, ready for your quality records.
Advisory Guidance
Where a parameter falls outside expectation, or a formal certification scheme applies, we advise on next steps.
NABL-Accredited
Calibration and validation carried out under NABL accreditation and ISO/IEC 17025:2017.
On-Site & Laboratory Capability
Testing carried out on-site at your facility or in our laboratory, whichever suits your cabinet and schedule.
